What affordable pools cost on Long Island
Published 2026 figures for Long Island vary a lot, mostly because people count different things. Local contractor guides put a vinyl inground pool at about $25,000–$65,000, with many landing in the mid-$40,000s. That makes vinyl the starting point for most affordable pools. National cost sites quote $70,000 and up for Long Island. Much of the gap comes from what's counted: some figures cover just the pool, others include the patio, fence and electrical. Gunite (concrete) pools typically run $65,000–$140,000.
| Pool type | Published Long Island range | How affordable? |
|---|---|---|
| Above-ground | Priced per project | The most affordable way to get a pool |
| Vinyl inground | $25,000–$65,000 | The most affordable inground pool for most yards |
| Semi-inground with stone wall | Priced per project | Often affordable on sloped or tight yards (less digging) |
| Gunite (concrete) | $65,000–$140,000+ | Premium; a smaller, simpler shape keeps it within reach |

The most affordable pools we build
- Above-ground pools. The most affordable way to get a pool in your yard. We install them, and can build a deck or paver patio around them.
- Vinyl inground pools. The most affordable inground pool, with custom shapes, steps, sun shelves and benches. Our vinyl pools usually go from dig to water in about 2–4 weeks.
- Semi-inground pools with a stone wall. Partly raised and wrapped in stone or block veneer. On a sloped yard they cut excavation and retaining walls, which makes them one of the most affordable pools to build there. More on semi-inground pools.
- Right-sized gunite. If you want concrete, a smaller pool with a simple shape keeps a gunite pool as affordable as it can be.
Nine ways to make your pool more affordable
- Choose vinyl. On Long Island a vinyl pool often costs roughly half of a comparable gunite pool, and it's built much faster.
- Pick the right size, not the biggest. A 14×28 or 16×32 is plenty for most families. Every extra foot adds excavation, steel, liner, coping and decking.
- Keep the shape simple. Rectangles and gentle freeforms are cheaper to dig, form and line than tight curves.
- Add features that earn their keep. A sun shelf and wide entry steps get used every day. Save waterfalls and sheer descents for later, or skip them.
- Build the patio at the same time. One crew and one set of equipment on site costs less than bringing in a second contractor next year.
- Choose pavers for the deck. Concrete pavers cost less than porcelain or natural stone and still look great around a pool. See affordable patios.
- Plan in phases. Put the pool in now and the outdoor kitchen later, but run the gas, electric and conduit sleeves now so nothing gets torn up.
- Use the slope. On a sloped yard a semi-inground pool can save on excavation and retaining walls.
- Book early. Planning over the winter gets you a spring spot in the schedule and time to compare quotes properly.
Affordable pools are still safe, solid pools
Some savings cost more later. Don't skimp on the base under the patio (sinking pavers are expensive to fix), on drainage around the pool, or on the safety items the code requires. New York requires a barrier around the pool (a fence at least 4 feet high with self-closing, self-latching gates) and a pool alarm. Budget for those from day one, even on the most affordable pools.
An affordable pool and patio, built together
Most pool projects are really pool-and-patio projects. When the pool builder and the patio contractor are different companies, you pay for two mobilizations and someone has to coordinate grades, drains and coping. We dig with our own equipment, build the pool, lay the base and set the pavers with the same crew. That keeps the whole project more affordable and the yard is torn up once. Online ranges are a starting point. The real cost depends on access for equipment, soil, slope, how far the electrical has to run, and what you want around the pool. We come out, measure, and send a written quote with a 3D design, so you can see the pool, patio and lighting together and decide what to build now and what can wait.
