Cost per square foot
Long Island contractor guides put an installed paver patio at about $21–$36 per square foot. Older published figures are lower ($16–$19 for basic sand-set pavers in 2022), so treat anything under $20 today with caution. Porcelain and natural stone cost more than concrete pavers.

Simple arithmetic on the published per-square-foot range, before steps, walls, removal of an old patio or lighting.
What drives the price
- The base. Proper excavation depth, compacted stone and edge restraint. This is what keeps pavers from sinking.
- Access. Tight side yards mean smaller machines and more hand work.
- Removing what's there. Breaking out an old concrete patio adds labor and hauling.
- Steps and levels. Each step, landing and level change adds cost.
- Walls and borders. Seat walls, retaining walls and contrasting borders.
- Material. Concrete pavers, porcelain or natural stone.
Ways to save
- Size it for how you'll use it, and extend later
- Pick a standard paver and pattern with a simple border
- Keep it to one level where the yard allows
- Combine it with other work (walkway, lighting) so equipment comes once
